A group of parents who volunteer their time and talents to help build a strong community for students, families, and staff at Cleveland Elementary school!
There are three ways to be involved:
PTO Board members serve two-year terms. Board members are voted into position by all PTO members, prior to a new school year. A board seat involves the highest time commitment way to be involved, and closer collaboration with teachers and staff. Board members plan and host events, work with vendors, host PTO meetings, participate in many school events and administrative functions, manage the PTO budget, ensure compliance for the PTO non-profit legal entity, and more!
PTO Volunteer Members serve as much, or as little, as they want! Volunteer members help plan, organize, and support events and activities throughout the year. There is no set time commitment for a volunteer, any invovlement is appreciated!
School families and staff are what make it all run! Even if you don't feel ready to volunteer your time to help behind the curtains yet, please attend our events and participate in our activities throughout the year. Engagement with our families and staff is what creates an enriching environment for our students, staff, and families!
According to a 2023 write-up on usnews.com:
The main difference between a PTA and a PTO is in their organizational structure. Both have the same goals and commitment to support, improve and advocate for their school communities.
PTAs have an affiliation with the national association and follow their policies and regulations, and some of their raised funds are directed to nationwide initiatives and programs. PTOs run independently, set their own policies and goals and control how their funding is used.
PTAs are part of a larger organized network working toward making an impact on decisions that go beyond their own schoolyard, experts say, while PTOs focus more on issues specific to their local school or school district.
